Jiri Petrdlik


BIO:

George Petrdlík / 1977 / belongs to the most outstanding personalities of conductors of his generation. Studied piano, trombone and conducting (1995 - 2000 Prague Conservatory, 2000 - 2005 Academy of Performing Arts in Prague) prof. Miroslav Košler, Miram Nemcova, Jiri Belohlavek, Radomila Elizabeth, Francis Vajnar and others. He completed his education at master classes chief conductor Kurt Masur, New York Philharmonic and principal conductor of the Prague Philharmonia and the BBC Philharmonic Jiri Belohlavek.

George Petrdlík also successfully participated in major music competitions (eg. Praga Cantat - gold medal and special prize of the jury, American Opera Competition - 3rd place, D. Flick Conductor Competition in London - runner-up). In the years 2002-2009 Petrdlík worked as a conductor at the National Theatre in Brno and chief conductor of the Brno City Theatre. Since 2004 he is engaged as permanent conductor of the JK Tyl Theatre in Pilsen as a guest regularly with many leading opera houses (eg. Teatro di Messina, Theatre du Capitole de Toulouse, Mazowiecki Teatr Muzyczny Warszawa, North Texas University Opera, National Theatre , Prague Chamber Opera, National Theatre Szeged, Cairo Opera House, the Alexandria Opera, and others).

In the field of symphonic music George Petrdlík continued conducting partnership with many leading Czech and foreign bodies (eg. Symphony Orchestra. M. Prague Symphony Orchestra, Radio Symphony Orchestra, Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Moravian Philharmonic in Olomouc, North Czech Philharmonic Teplice, Wroclaw Philharmonic, Silesian Katowice Philharmonic Orchestra MTM Warszawa, KSO Toronto, Carpathian Rzeszow Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra Iwasaki et al.).

George Petrdlík is regularly invited to important music festivals in Europe, China, Japan, Canada and USA. In 2010 Petrdlík launched a successful and long-standing cooperation with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, where he worked in 2011-2015 as general music director and chief conductor. In season 2014/15 the Petrdlík successfully introduced the audience to the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the 2015/16 season has been a regular guest conductor of the Philharmonic Carpathian Rzeszow (Poland). In December 2015 he was invited to manage the New Year tour of the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra in China and in April 2016 introduced the audience to the Musikverein in Vienna in the series "Musik der Meister" in the hall of the Vienna Philharmonic.

Besides conducting activities Jiri Petrdlík also developed rich activities choirmaster (2002-2010 choirmaster of the University Art Ensemble of Charles University, since 2009 artistic director of the Prague Mixed Choir), musicology (Charles University - Ph.D.), publication and teaching (Conservatory of Jaroslav Jezek in Prague). Since 1998 he has been a member and chairman of the jury of the international festival Praga Cantat and member of the Society A. Dvorak. He is also a member of the committee of the Society Fibich and from 2016 music director of the internationally unique International Festival of Concert Melodrama.

Petrdlíkův wide repertoire includes songs from various genres, styles and eras. In his recording activity often pays attention to the rarely performed works (eg. Gluck - Ezio - World premiere recording of the Prague version of the opera, Beethoven - Cantata on the Death of Emperor Joseph II. And Cantata for the coronation of Emperor Leopold II., Foerster - Glagolitic Mass, Fibich - Missa brevis, Arend - Astral Travels, Martin - kitchen revue, Prokofiev - Eugene Onegin etc.).
